Surajkund

In 425 bc, a king Surajsingh went in to a forest for hunting.  He went missing in the forest.  He was very hungry and asked a sage who was doing penance for water.  The name of the sage was ‘Gwalipa’.  He asked the king to climb a hill for water.  The king went on to the hill and drank water which was found on the hill.  He was suffering from leprosy and the water cured his disease.  He constructed Surajkund Lake and a mandir in between the water.  Many people still believe that the water in the lake has medicinal values.  Since sage Gwalipa lived in this area, this town was called Gwalior.   There are many more places to visit in Gwalior like ‘Saas-bahu ka mandir’, Teli ka mandir, Gurudwara, Grave of Jhansi Rani.
