Palakollu or Ksheeraramam is one of the Pancharamams in Andhra Pradesh | Road (route) map and driving directions from Rajahmundry to Palakollu
It is the custom of Hindus to worship Lord Shiva and also to visit the temples of Lord Shiva in the holy month of ‘Kartika’. People of Andhra Pradesh visit the Pancharamams located near Narsapuram in West Godavari district in the month of Kartikam.
One of the Pacharamams is ‘Ksheeraraamam’ popularly known as ‘Palakollu’. As per mythology, Upamanyu, son of sage Kaushika used to always pray to Lord Shiva. But milk needed for Abhishekam was not found in abundant. So he prayed to Lord Shiva for milk. Lord Shiva gave him tank of pushkarini which provides milk. That is why this place is called ‘Ksheeraraamam’ or ‘Palakollu’. It is generally believed that Lord Rama worships Lord Shiva in this place even today. The Rajagopuram of the temple is very high. Shivalingam in the sanctum sanctorum is in white marble. Lord Shiva here is worshipped by the devotees as Ramalingeswara Swamy and Ksheerarama Swamy.
