Jabalpur is a town which is in the middle of India and has a historical prominence. Many memorials can be found in and around this town. The name of this town is also mentioned in Mahabharata and acquired prominence during the ruling of Mourya, Gupta and Kalchuri dynasties. Jabalpur is famous as a capital city of Kalchuri dynasty rulers like Yuvaraju devudu, Karna devudu, Ganga devudu etc who ruled for over 4 centuries. As per history it can be understood that in 18th century Marathas changed their capital from Sagar to Jabalpur. Britishers occupied Jabalpur in the year 1817.
Jabalpur is a small town and half day is sufficient to see the important places. Auto rickshaw are available for sight seeing. Jabalpur is situated at a height of 393 meters from the sea level so temperatures are not high even in summer season. As Jhansi became famous because of queen Lakshmibai, Jabalpur became famous a historic place because of the valour of Queen Durgavati. Queen Durgavati is famous not only as a queen of Gond but also as the women who fought with emperor Akbar. And she died in this war. Idol of Queen Durgavati on an elephant is installed in the Bhamparlal garden of Jabalpur. Clothes and weapons of queen Durgavati are displayed in the Rani Durgavati Museum. Many inscriptions can also be found in the museum.
