Madikeri fort

The Madikeri fort is built with mud. It was build by King Rajendra II between 1812-14.  Later this was strengthened by Tipu Sultan.  Now the fort houses  municipal office, jail, church, temple, museum, library and  court.  The main attraction here is the life size statues of 2 elephants.  Omkareswar temple is on the east side of the fort.  There is a temple tank, statue of Nandi and the golden coloured dome on the tower are the attractions here.  Graves of Raja Virajarajendra and Rani Lingarajendra are on the north side of the village.  These are called ‘gaddige’. The roof of the tomb is in the shape of a dome.  World famous Abbey falls are also in the same root.
