Elgandal or Veligandula is an ancient village. Earlier this was called Bahudhanyapuram. According to the inscriptions available, it is known that this village  existed in 1202 AD. Elgandal fort has much importance in the history.

Though it is not clearly known when Elgandal fort was built, historians assume that this was built during the ruling of Kakatiyas. Later the fort was captured by Muslims. Till 1905, Elgandal was the district capital of Karimnagar.

Elgandal fort is situated in the Karimnagar, Sirisilla route at a distance of 10 km from Karimnagar. One has to climb nearly 250 steps to reach the fort which is built on a hill. The visitors will instantly forget their tiredness once they reach the fort. The greenery around and the nearby Maneru reservoir look beautiful from the fort.

Brindavan tank, mosques, temple of Narasimha swamy etc are the attractions of Elgandal fort. There is a 4 minar mosque which reminds the visitors of Charminar in Hyderabad.
