Diu and Daman tourist interest places
Diu and Daman are in Walsad and Junagarh districts respectively in Gujarat district as one union territory. Diu and Daman were ruled by Portuguese until 1961 and were part of Goa till 1987. There is a distance of 700 kms between Daman and Diu.
Daman is a port town. Many battles were fought for Daman. Daman of today is a fusion of different cultures and is favorite holiday spot for tourists, especially for Maharashtra people. September to May is the tourist season in Daman. Moti Daman is on the north of River Damanganga and the north of the River is Moti Daman. Both are very unique. Moti Daman has big roads and ancient building and a big lighthouse.
There is a big fort in Moti Daman which was built by Portuguese in the year 1959. They run their secretariat in this fort. Their staff also resided in the fort. Jampore beach is an attraction of Daman. here are no stones in the water and elders and children can enjoy swimming. The food stalls at the beach offer kababs, jetty rolls, pav bhaji and varieties of fish curries.
Nani Daman has a tourists complex which has cafeteria, beautiful cottages, conference hall, health club, amphi theatre and waterfalls. The gardens are very clean in spite of the large number of tourists visiting them. Mirasol water park, lake garden with colorful fountains, flowers are other attraction in Nani Daman. Boating is available in Lake Garden which has swan shaped boats. Saint Jerome fort in Nani Daman was built facing the water. This was built in 17th century. A church, graver yard and school are there in the fort. Dev ka Beach in Nani Daman has musical fountains, amusement park, water sports. There are many resorts and restaurants. Nariyal Purnima is the popular festival of Diu and Daman. This festival is celebrated by fishermen to offer coconuts to water gods before the beginning of fishing season.
Diu is on the banks of Arabian Sea and is only 13 km long and 13 kms wide. The fresh air from the sea and the neat beaches has made Diu the favorite place of tourists. Gujarati tourists can be seen in more numbers. Diu has much importance as this is a port town and is a bridge between India and other countries. There are flights available to Diu for Mumbai. One can also reach Diu by getting down from train at Veraval station and traveling for 50 kms on road.
Jalandhar temple, Chandrika Devi temple and Gangeswar temples in Diu are must visit places. In the Gangeswar temple, there are five Shiva lingas installed by Pandavas. The sea waters seem to offer Abhishekam to the shiva lingas daily. There are many beaches in Diu such as Nagoa beach, Ghogla beach and gate way beach. St. Thomas Church in Diu has been converted in to a museum. There are many ancient statues, stone carvings and wood statues in the museum. St Paul church that belonged to 1610 century was one of the important of Portuguese churches. The fort belonging to 16th century is the main attraction of Diu. The visit to Diu and Daman will leave sweet memories in the hearts of the tourists. The peaceful life style of the people at Daman and Diu attracts the tourists.
