Jajpur in Odisha
There are very few people who know the place where , one of the Astadasasakthipeetham is actually located. It is said that the deity is at place called Odhaanyam.
There is a small station named keonjhar Jajpur Road from 72 km from Cuttack, on the Visakhapatnam – Calcutta rail route. There is a small village beside the railway station. There are two separate road ways to two villages Keonjhar and Jajpur hence the name for the railway station. Jajpur village is at a distance of 32 kms from the railway station. Buses and auto rickshaws are available from the station. It takes about 45 minutes to reach Jajpur.
Jajpur is a small village in the forest area. It is district head quarters. The temple is on the other side of the village. The vicinity of the temple is big but the temple is small. The deity here is called ‘Virajadevi’. In the idiomatic usage of Orissa people it has become ‘Birajadevi’. The history of this temple is very big. There is a river ‘vitharini’ near the temple. According to the sthalapuraanam performing ceremonies to the deceased ancestors is the important ritual at this river. There is an Orissa Government Tourism guest house and one or two private guest houses to provide accommodation to the tourists.
There is a place called ‘Chatiyawata’ at a distance of 20 kms from Jajpur. Lord Balarama has taken the form of a Tree stem here. The temple is an architectural wonder with beautiful shilpakala. Do visit this place if there is a chance.

Though most of the people visit Puri, Konark and Bhubaneshwar in Orissa there are many more places in the state which captivate the tourists.
Tourists visit Jagannath temple in Puri and Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneshwar. There are Markandeshwara temple, Hanuman temple, Gauransha temple and Gundicha temple in Puri. There is a marvellous Sakshi Gopal temple near Puri.
Other than Lingaraja Temple, there are many more temples in Bhubaneshwar. They are Parasurama temple, Kedareswara Temple, Mukteswara Temple, Siddheswara temple. Rajarani temple and Brahmeshwara Temple. On one side of Bhubaneshwar there are Khandagiri and Udayagiri on the other side is Dhauli Sthupa. Jajpur which houses Girija Devi one of the Sakthipeetas is at a distance of 90kms from Bhubaneshwar. Another 30kms from there takes the tourists to Chatiyavata temple. This is called the second Puri. It has the most beautiful architecture and captivating statues.
Panchalingeshwar Temple which is at a distance of 30kms from Balasore in North Orissa is another wonderful temple. Kichakeswari temple is in Khiching in Middle Orissa. Huma temple near sambalpur in West Orissa can be considered as one of the wonders of the world. Vihaleswara Temple is situated on the banks of Mahanadi. All the temples and the idols in the temples lean at an angle of 470. These temples did not get the recognition they should have got. Many more temples are situated in Sonapur near Sambalpur.
There is no dearth of interesting tourist spots in Orissa. Chilka Lake spread over 1100 sq mtrs and located between Berhampur and Khurda road is world famous. Chandipur is a beautiful sea shore. Foreigners come in hundreds and stay here for days together.
