Honey, pepper, betel nuts and cinnamon are cheaper here.  Nohsngithiang waterfalls which are also called Seven sisters falls are another attraction.  This is at a height of 4,500 feet and Bangladesh is clearly visible from this height.  Mawsmai caves are located nearby.

Presently main attractions are Cherrapunji are the waterfalls and the limestone caves.  Mawsmai is one such cave. What to see in and around Aurangabad | Road (Route) map to Aurangabad from Shirdi

Aurangabad is the city which is formed based on the name of the king Aurangzeb who is the last of the Mughal Emperors. There are no special places to be visited in this place but the Aurangabad is the way to reach the famous tourist spots, Ajanta and Ellora caves. The Ellora caves are 32km away from Aurangabad. The Daulatabad fort is at the route of Ellora. The Ghrushneshwar temple which is one among the Dwadasa Jyotirlingas is at the second side of the Ellora caves. The Ajanta caves are 105km away from the East of the Aurangabad. There is the construction of Bibika- Macbara which is at one end of the Aurangabad, which is built by the son of Aurangzeb in the memorial of the wife of Aurangzeb. It appears same like that of the Taj Mahal which is in Agra but it is not as big as of the original Taj and also not as beautiful as Taj.

The Panchakki place is on the other end of Aurangabad. There is a story that one orphan old man had made a permanent living in this place by taking care of the orphan children and used to take care of them. As the children cannot do the heavy works he used to place the small utensils which are useful in cooking like grinding stones of flour mill and other heavy utensils which are useful in the process of cooking. He also made arrangements to get the water from the pipes from the water project which is near to the Aurangabad. He used the force of that water to work as the power supplier for those five utensils and made use of those utensils. By this arrangement, the children used to cook the food very easily without any hard work. The place where those five utensils are there is called as Panchakki. The tomb of that old orphan is in that surrounding only. Just one km away Aurangabad, there are Ellora like caves but the complete area has become like a forest and it is not possible to reach that place.

Arrival of British to Shillong

Arrival of British to Shillong

shillong

In 19th century, British were searching for cool places unable to bear the heat of the Indian summer.  They reached Shillong and achieved supremacy over the Khasi tribes.  They planted pine, fir and other fruits trees.  They constructed buildings and named them after British.  Shillong is also called the ‘Scotland of the East’.

The influence of British on the Khasi tribe can be still felt with the number of cathedrals in the town, wood houses, the Khasi script in Roman letters and the rock music heard from every house.  Shillong is the birth place of many world famous rock musicians.  Heritage hotels which can be seen in Shillong were built by British.  Pianos, ball rooms, furniture, cutlery and fire places in the hotels remind the British culture.

Gwalior Fort

Another place which is a must visit is the fort of Gwalior.  This is on a hill.  Strong wall are built around the hill.  These are 2 miles long and 35 feet height and are intact even now.  The statues of Jain Teerdhankrs can be seen on the walls while going to the fort.  A local king carved them on the walls as he was interested in the Jain religion.  He destroyed some of them at the order of Mughals.  This fort went in to the hands of British rulers at a later stage.  This fort is so strong that Babur complimented that this is the best fort in the country.  When this fort was under Mughals. Aurangazeb had imprisoned his brother Murad in this fort.  He was hanged later.   51 subordinate kings were imprisoned here along with Hargobind Singh.  Queen Nurjahan ordered to release Hargobind Singh.  But Hargobind singh wanted all the kings to be released along with him. Then the Nawab laid a condition.  He said he will release all the kings who can come out holding the shirt of Hargobind singhHargobind singh’s shirt was torn in to pieces and made like a rope.  All kings came out holding that rope.
